This upcoming Thursday, the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) will convene a workshop for commissioners, environmental justice advocates, and community groups on development along the Bay:

Thursday, January 17, 2 p.m.
BCDC Environmental Justice Workshop

Bay Area Metro Center, Yerba Buena Room
375 Beale St., San Francisco, CA 94105

Recently appointed by Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon to BCDC, Brightline’s executive director Eddie Ahn has focused on environmental justice communities from San Mateo to Contra Costa County.  BCDC’s permitting authority determines billions of dollars of development, and the agency impacts a host of environmental justice concerns, such as shoreline flooding that can lead to a loss of housing, schools, jobs, and access to parks, as well as exposure to pollutants washed over from nearby contaminated sites.  All are welcome as this key planning agency seeks to incorporate social equity and diverse stakeholders throughout the region.

From Powering Zero-Emissions Bus Policy Statewide to Empowering Local Communities in San Francisco

By the end of 2018, Brightline successfully concluded local and statewide campaigns for electric buses.  Supporting an environmental coalition including the Union of Concerned Scientists, Earthjustice, and Sierra Club among many others, Brightline advocated for the passage of the California Air Resources Board’s Innovative Clean Transit rule, which requires transit agencies across the state to adopt 100% zero-emissions buses.  Brightline also continues its local empowerment projects in San Francisco, ranging from hosting policy workshops for the API Youth Leadership Council of CYC to supporting the Asian Community Garden in Bayview-Hunters Point.
